Deborah Matz, has been Senior Vice President, Legal, of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (“LLS”) since January 2015 and is responsible for the direction and management of LLS’s legal activities. Along with her team of two additional attorneys and a paralegal, she has responsibility for compliance and for providing legal support to all LLS Departments, including contract review, employee relations, policy development, litigation avoidance, copyright and trademark advice. She also serves as the staff liaison to the LLS Board of Directors and advises the Board with respect to the corporation’s bylaws as well as other governance issues.
Immediately prior to joining LLS, Debbie was Senior Director Risk Management at the Ontario Securities Commission, where she rolled out its Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Debbie was previously a partner at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (“DTT”) in both the US and Canada, where she spent most of her career. In Canada she served as General Counsel before transferring to the US, where she served as Associate General Counsel in claims and risk management supporting various DTT firms in Europe, the Caribbean and South America in connection with lawsuits, regulatory investigations and government requirements.
Admitted to the Bar in both the State of New York and the Province of Ontario, Debbie earned her LLB/JD at the Queen’s University Faculty of Law, and her B.A. at the University of Toronto.
